CHS: Public art causes legal two-step, gaybashing near campus, parking changes coming

February 5th, 2010 Joshua Lynch No comments

Here’s some neat stories from the past few days at CapitolHillSeattle.com, our news partners who diligently cover our neighborhood.

  • Not so cute response: Police are investigating a gaybashing that took place near campus at 11th Avenue and East Pine Street Saturday.
  • Easier parking? It’s nearly impossible to drive down Broadway to go have dinner. So most of us walk. But some changes by the city may make it easier to find a spot.
  • World-class cellist: Lauri Goldston played at Vermillion Wednesday.
  • Dancing with the law: Ever dance on those metal dance steps along Broadway? We thought so.  A local photographer is in hot water over copyright issues with the public art, reports CHS.

To Do: Vera Project Silk Screening

February 20th, 2009 Garrett Mukai No comments

Everytime I’ve been to the Vera Project I see their silk screen printing studio downstairs, proudly displayed through their giant class windows and think “Yeah! I want to do some silk screening!” Unfortunately, I ain’t got time for that… not until the summer at least. Regardless, it all looks legit and the prices aren’t too bad:

Cost: $20, half off for members

If you already have a design that you’d like to print after the class (there is post-class studio time from 3-5pm), bring it on a transparency & please bring your own water-based inks. (all other supplies for the class will be provided, unless you have something specific you’d like to print.)

I just want to make some prints for my walls. Ok, and maybe a shirt or two.

They have professional machines like this

Also, once you take a class you can use the studio anytime for just $5. SCREEN AWAY!

And (Hint this to your RA or organization leader) they offer private classes for groups of six or more. That’s easy. In fact, just get a group of friends together. Head over to their Web site for all the deets.
